Summertime Berry Jam
A favorite summertime tradition is making berry jam when berries are in season. This year I made a very berry jam using raspberries, boysenberries, and blueberries. Since I made a few jars of berry jam, I submitted one to the country fair this summer and got second place! I make berry jam with only two ingredients: berries and sugar. I don't follow a specific recipe, but usually use a 1 to 3 ratio of sugar to berries. Here is the recipe I used for the very berry jam.
Ingredients:
- 3 cups berries (raspberries, boysenberries, blueberries)
- 1 cup sugar
Cooking Steps
- Place the berries and sugar in a medium size sauce pan and stir over medium heat until the mixture starts to bubble.
- Reduce heat to simmer and continue to stir regularly for about 30 minutes until a jam-like texture forms.
- If the jam will be eaten within 2 to 3 weeks, it can be stored in the refrigerator, in a glass container with lid, such as a mason jar. But, if it will be stored for a longer period, a canning method should be used. Click this link from Ball Mason Jars on steps to Home Canning 101.
