Summer Solstice
Today is the summer solstice which welcomes the first day of summer. π The celestial
explanation for this event? The earth’s north pole has reached its maximum
tilt toward the sun creating the longest day of the year. Between the summer
solstice in June and the autumn equinox in September, the earth’s northern
hemisphere will enjoy longer days filled with warm sunshine, while the climate
in the southern hemisphere will begin to cool and have shorter days.
But beyond the celestial explanation of the changing
season, those warm summer months conjure sentimental memories of whimsical lazy days and
endless adventures. Like flying kites at
the beach. Picnics and evening concerts in the
park. Fourth of July parades and dazzling evening fireworks. County fairs. Long bicycle rides
along the beach. Walks through flower-filled mountain trails.
Farmer’s markets. Gardening. Fresh lemonade. Making jams and marmalades
from sweet summer fruits. Summer book clubs at the local library. Camp fires and storytelling under the moonlight. Road trips with friends. Collecting lovely summer hats and sun dresses. And creating beautiful memories.
Wherever you are on this wonderful earth, enjoy the
season!
